Layered Cheese and Beef Casserole

Ingredients

oz. (4 1/2 cups) uncooked medium egg noodles

lb. ground beef
1/4
cup chopped onion

(8-oz.) cans tomato sauce

teaspoon salt
1/2
teaspoon garlic powder
1/4
teaspoon pepper

cup cottage cheese
1
(8-oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1/4
cup thinly sliced green onions
1/4
cup chopped green bell pepper
1/2
cup grated Parmesan cheese
Additional grated Parmesan cheese, if desired

Directions

  1. 1 Cook noodles to desired doneness as directed on package. Drain.
  2. 2 Meanwhile, in medium skillet, brown ground beef and onion over medium-high heat until beef is thoroughly cooked. Drain. Add tomato sauce, salt, garlic powder and pepper; mix well. Reduce heat; simmer 15 minutes.
  3. 3 Heat oven to 350°F. In medium bowl, combine cottage cheese, cream cheese, 1/4 cup green onions, bell pepper and 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese; mix well.
  4. 4 In ungreased 13x9-inch (3-quart) baking dish, layer 1/2 each of cooked noodles, beef sauce and cheese mixture; repeat layers. Sprinkle additional Parmesan cheese over top if desired.
  5. 5 Bake at 350°F. for 30 to 35 minutes or until thoroughly heated.
