Expert Tips

Don't stir the water into the batter. During baking, the top layer bakes into a cake and the bottom layer turns into a fudgy pudding.

My local newspaper published this recipe several years ago and described this as a Pillsbury Bake-Off runner-up. How wrong they were. It should've taken the blue ribbon! It uses on-hand ingredients and couldn't be simpler! The chocolatey flavor depends a lot on the quality of the cocoa one uses. I make it every February and it is a winner!

The pudding did not have an over whelming chocolate taste, more sweet sugar, but it was quick and easy to put together.

I don't know what I did wrong, but could not eat it. The bottom was dry & the top was to watery. Is there something missing in this recipe?

This cake was very good. I cut back on the cocoa just a bit, but will certainly be making it again. Thanks

This was so easy to make and I don't bake a lot. This came out perfect. But I think the next time I'll add a little coffee to bring out the chocolate flavor even more.
