EXPERT TIPS

Expert Tips

* If desired, 4 split kaiser rolls can be substituted for the French bread.

Like many fruits, tomatoes will continue to ripen after they've been picked. Pick any green tomatoes left on the vine when a hard frost threatens in the fall and ripen them indoors on the windowsill.

To reduce the fat in each hoagie by 13 grams, cut the bacon to two slices an crumble it to disperse the flavor, use low-fat ranch dressing instead of regular and substitute alfalfa sprouts for the avocado.

Add shredded fresh basil just before serving.
