Homemade Apple pies

These pies are made from scratch. There easy to make and are a healthier choice from the store bought.My daughter and i enjoy making pies together,its a special moment.

Ingredients

5-6c
Pillsbury flour
11/2
stick butter cubed(reserve 1/2 stick for apple mixture)
2tsp salt
3tsp sugar(reserve 1tsp for apple mixture)
11/2
to 2c cold water
2tbsp ground cinnamon(divided)
6-8
large apples,green granny smith(peeled and sliced)
1/2c
brown sugar
1
egg, (for brushing on pie before baking)
2tbsp milk( to add to egg for brushing on top of pies)

  • 1 Mix flour,salt,sugar,and cinnamon.
  • 2 Mix butter cubes in well.
  • 3 Slowly add cold water,a little at a time.
  • 4 Dough will be ready when it holds together.
  • 5 Gently knead dough,and shape into 4 separate balls.
  • 6 Wrap each ball in plastic wrap and place in fridge for 1 hour.
  • 7 Allow dough to set 10 minutes to reach room temperature.
  • 8 Meanwhile preheat oven to 350.
  • 9 Roll each ball so you have 4 disks of equal size.
  • 10 Place one disk on bottom of each pie pan,there should be two.
  • 11 Spread softened butter on bottom of pans.This acts like like a barrier to prevent soggy dough.
  • 12 Mix sliced apples,cinnamon,1/2 stick of butter,sugar,and 1/2c brown sugar.
  • 13 Pour mixture in each pie dish,and then place dough on top of each.
  • 14 Press edges of dough with fingers,and then with a fork lightly.This will seal the edges.
  • 15 cut excess and discard.Scour the tops with a knife at least 2in to look like an X.
  • 16 Beat 1 egg and 2tsp milk in a bowl,and brush on top of each pie.
  • 17 Bake at 350 for about 45min or until golden brown.Let cool and serve.

The only problem i experienced is putting this recipe on Pillsbury. This recipe is awesome and i have always enjoyed making it.I had no issues making this recipe,and that's why i was so happy to share it with others.

Make sure to spread softened butter on bottom of pan before adding apple mixture.This will help prevent the dough from getting soggy from apple mixture.The butter acts like a barrier.
