Choose to grill or bake this herbed chicken dish that adds aromatic flavors to your dinner table.

BASTING BUTTER

1/4
cup butter or margarine, melted
1/2
teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1/2
teaspoon dried sage leaves
1/4
teaspoon dried rosemary leaves, crushed
1/8
teaspoon garlic powder

CHICKEN

to 3 1/2 lb. cut-up or quartered frying chicken, skin removed, if desired

Steps

  • 1 <b>Grill Directions:</b> Heat grill. In small bowl, combine all basting butter ingredients; mix well.
  • 2 When ready to grill, place chicken, skin side down, on gas grill over low heat or on charcoal grill 4 to 6 inches from medium coals. Cook 45 to 60 minutes, or until chicken is fork-tender and juices run clear, turning once and brushing frequently with basting butter. Discard any remaining butter.

Expert Tips

Assuming you dip the basting brush into the butter mixture, then onto the chicken as it's cooking, then back into the butter mixture, any remaining uncooked butter mixture should be discarded to avoid contamination from the raw chicken.

Serve the chicken with sprigs of fresh thyme, sage or rosemary.

Round out the meal with steamed green beans, boiled red-skinned potatoes and yellow or red cherry tomatoes. For dessert, offer brownies and ice cream.
