Hearty Hoedown Grilled Burgers

Beef up everyone's summer grilling favorite with Worcestershire sauce, bell pepper, and other simple seasonings you probably have on hand, then top with a slice of good ole American cheese.

Ingredients

lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef

cup finely chopped onion (1 small)
1/3
cup finely chopped green bell pepper

tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

teaspoon seasoned salt

teaspoon garlic powder

teaspoon pepper

slices (1 oz) American cheese
6
burger buns, split
1/4
cup sandwich spread (from 16-oz jar)
Red onion slices, if desired
  • 1 Heat gas or charcoal grill. In medium bowl, mix ground beef, onion, bell pepper, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, garlic powder and pepper until well blended. Shape mixture into 6 patties, 1/2 inch thick.
  • 2 Place patties on grill. Cover grill; cook over medium heat 13 to 15 minutes, turning once, until meat thermometer inserted in center of patties reads 160°F. To toast buns, place cut sides down on grill during last 1 to 2 minutes of cooking time. Top each patty with cheese slice; cook just until cheese is melted.
  • 3 Spread cut sides of toasted buns with sandwich spread; top with onion slices. Place cheese-topped patties in buns.
