lb boneless beef round steak, cut into 8 pieces

cup all-purpose flour

tablespoons vegetable oil

cup chopped onion

medium carrots, chopped (1 1/2 cups)
2
medium stalks celery, sliced (1 cup)
1
cup Progresso® beef flavored broth (from 32-oz carton)
1/2
cup red wine or Progresso® beef flavored broth
1
can (15 oz) tomato sauce
1
teaspoon dried minced garlic

  • 1 In 1-gallon resealable food-storage plastic bag, place beef, flour, salt and pepper; seal bag. Shake to coat beef evenly.
  • 2 In 12-inch nonstick skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of the oil over medium-high heat. Add half of the beef; cook 4 to 5 minutes, turning once, until browned on all sides. Repeat with remaining oil and beef.
  • 3 Spray 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. In cooker, place onion, carrots and celery; place beef on top. In medium bowl, mix broth, wine, tomato sauce and garlic. Pour over beef.
  • 4 Cover; cook on Low heat setting 7 to 9 hours.

Substitute 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained, for the tomato sauce.

This is a great recipe. I use all beef broth instead of wine and buy baby carrots to add to it. I serve it with mashed potatoes and dinner rolls. My entire family loves it!

Instead of using a bowl, pour the oil from the pan and deglaze it with the wine. Add the broth, tomato sauce, etc.
