Hamburger and Potato Casserole

(7.8-oz.) pkg. Au Gratin Potatoes

(8-oz.) can pizza sauce

cups water

cup milk

(4.5-oz.) jar Green Giant® Sliced Mushrooms, drained
4
oz. (1 cup) finely shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4
cup chopped green onions

  • 1 Heat oven to 400°F. Brown ground beef in large nonstick skillet until thoroughly cooked, stirring frequently.
  • 2 Meanwhile, in ungreased 12x8-inch (2-quart) glass baking dish, combine potato slices and contents of sauce packet from potatoes.
  • 3 In medium saucepan, combine pizza sauce and water. Bring to a boil. Pour over potato mixture; mix well. Add milk, mushrooms and beef mixture; mix well.
  • 4 Bake at 400°F. for 30 minutes. Remove from oven; stir mixture gently. Sprinkle with cheese and onions. Return to oven; bake an additional 5 to 10 minutes or until potatoes are tender and cheese is melted. Let stand 5 minutes before serving to thicken sauce.

My kids told me it tasted like Hamburger Helper - not sure if that was a good thing or not. I would double the recipe next time, it did't go far with 2 teenagers and a hungry husband.

My family LOVED this recipe. We did not add the green onions or the mushrooms(picky eaters), but did add two boxes of Au Gratin potatoes, then doubled the cheese, pizza sauce and water. So good and we did not have much left over. But what we did have left over was even better the next day. Oh my husband who loves cheese said we should have added more. : )
