Expert Tips

Crystallized ginger is candied gingerroot rolled in sugar and dried. The sweet, spicy flavor enhances the flavor of breads, baked desserts and cream desserts. Seal crystallized ginger in an airtight container and store it at room temperature.

Refresh purchased shortcakes by warming them in the microwave for 5 to 15 seconds on HIGH before topping them with berries and whipped topping.

Sweetened berries may stand until some juice develops and the added sugar dissolves. This happens most quickly at room temperature. After 30 minutes, the berry mixture should be refrigerated.
