French Onion Soup With Cheesy Bread

Ingredients

large onions, sliced (3 cups)

tablespoons margarine or butter, melted

tablespoons all-purpose flour

teaspoon sugar

teaspoon pepper

tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

(14-oz.) cans beef broth
8
(1-inch-thick) slices French bread
3
oz. (3/4 cup) shredded mozzarella cheese
2
tablespoons grated or shredded fresh Parmesan cheese

Directions

  1. 1 In 3 1/2- to 6-quart slow cooker, combine onions and margarine. Cover; cook on high setting for 30 to 35 minutes or until onions begin to slightly brown around edges.
  2. 2 In small bowl, blend flour, sugar, pepper and Worcestershire sauce until smooth. Stir flour mixture and broth into onions.
  3. 3 Cover; cook on low setting for 7 to 9 hours or on high setting for 3 to 4 hours.
  4. 4 About 10 minutes before serving, place bread slices on broiler pan. Sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Broil 5 to 6 inches from heat for about 3 minutes or until cheese is melted. Top individual servings of soup with 1 slice cheesy bread.
