well I know I cooked my roast a long time but I had no runny-ness. I loaded the pot up with potatoes, carrots, and a few onion. Everything was well covered by the sauce. The sauce gave it a sweeter flavor. It was pretty good, I'd make it again.

It was good, but the sauce was very runny. I will probably make it again, this time adding a bit of onion. To be honest, the "sauce" (a term I use loosely because it looked like greasy water) probably could have been eliminated altogether in lieu of something else that would add moisture. It was more like a soup than a roast, sitting in the slow cooker, but I can't deny that it was delicious, and went well with flaky homestyle biscuits!

We didn't like it. The roast ended up being rather dry and the Recipe Starter seemed to detract more from the taste than add to it.

I think I might add onions and peppers along with some Italian seasoning and turn this into Italian beef sandwiches...cooking for dinner tomorrow night! Has anyone tried with peppers and onions?

Needed enough for 11 people for a birthday dinner. So, put 2 roasts in the cooker the night before, along with a package of Pacific Garden Roasted Red Pepper soup, and Roasted Garlic with Lentil soup. Next morning I put in the mushrooms, and 1 lb of carrots. Cooked the potatoes in a seperate pan then added to crock pot. Added 2 pks of gravy mix, and there was very little left. Everyone enjoyed.

This was a great twist to Beef Stew without a gravy... Simple and bursting with flavor. I added 2 packages of Ready Serve Green Bean Steamers and used Russet potatoes unpeeled to give the dish a rustic flare. Served with crusty french bread and you have a winner. Easy to make and easy to clean up.

I agree with laurabialowas about browning the meat first. Rachel Ray even suggested that last week in a segment on her show about slow cooker recipes.

The whole point of a slow cooker is to put all the ingredients in one pot and forget about it. If you have to use anything more than a crockpot and a bowl, or precook the meat, there's no point! I've NEVER had an issue with not browning meat beforehand for crockpot cooking.
I'm sure that this recipe would have said 3-4 lbs, or 1-2 lbs, if that's what was meant. 3/4 lb and 1/2 lb means three-quarter pound, and one-half pound. You wouldn't be able to fit 3 lbs of potatoes PLUS 1 lb of carrots in a crockpot, and have any room left for the roast!
This is an awesome recipe, the only thing I did d

Before I make this dish are the potato and carrot amounts correct - 3/4 lb potatoes and 1/2 lb carrots?
