I have this recipe torn out from a 1973 magazine ad by my mom. It calls for Date OR Nut bread mix and suggests also Cranberry Nut (at that time Cherry Nut and Apricot Nut were among the seven kinds of mixes available). If you can't find date, I bet any nut bread would be okay or anything similar. For the person who wanted times for loaf pans, 8x4" 70-80 min., 9x5" 60-70 min.

If you go to this email address: www.pillsburybaking.com/BreadMix you can search for stores in your area that sell the date bread mix.

I use to always make festive fruit cake, but date nut bread mix no longer in stores. It's to expensive to buy online, as your required to buy an entire CASE!!!! Please listen to your loyal customers and bring it back!!!! (and I didn't just buy it for the holiday, we love date nut bread with cream cheese!!!!!!!)

My mother makes this cake every year and it is very popular. This year she want to make it in loaf pans. Any suggestions on baking time? Or other suggestion on baking in other pans? The bread mix is almost impossible to find in our area. I have ended up buying it in Florida @ Publix. They always have it year round.

Can you substitute Rum for the water? Would this adversely affect the recipe?
