I went searching for the Cure 81 ham to make this recipe. The expensive ham turned out to be a disaster. Over cooked, dried out chewy useless ham. I do it my way next time. Plain old oven method.

I just pour a jar of orange marmalade over the ham before putting in the crock pot, or oven. very easy and very tasty. I think I'll try the onion and vinegar though, to cut back on the sweetness.

My slow cooker ham with the Cure 81 in the slow cooker for 6 to 8 hours on low with 1 cup of Vernor's ginger ale mixed with 1/4 cup honey and poured on top. I do turn ham quickly after 1/2 the time has passed. Yummmmmmm!

This is for crab624.Cure 81 is a ham sold under rhe label of Hormel. I worked my entire life in the retail meat business. It is by far the best boneless ham you can buy. It would be my first choice.I have never had a bad one. I hopethey are available in your area.Look for them in whatever area your supermarket displays there hams

@tymom30...just get a boneless ham, the size you need. Make small cross cuts in top of ham, doesn't have to be too deep. Coat the ham in yellow mustard, then cover in brown sugar. Place into a baking dish, use cooking directions on the ham container. Before putting in oven, pour enough coca cola over the ham to have about 1/2 to 1 inch or so in the bottom of the dish. Baste the ham with the juices every 20 minutes or so...add more coca cola if needed. Add pineapple chunks or rings when serving. You shouldn't need to add any flour or water, just the juices from the cola and ham!! :)

I don't have a review, but I wanted to ask CMB2 how much of the coca cola, pineapple and brown sugar you use and then do you also make gravy out of the drippings from the bottom of the crockpot? If so, do you just add flour and water, or do you use any other ingredients?

I've never made the recipe above but have slow-cooked a ham in a crock pot for years. My mother did for years before me. Just unwrap it, put it in the crock pot and add about a cup of water. We usually buy CURE 81. Has NEVER failed-a delicious recipe every time. Frees up the oven! Usually 4-6 hours on low. It's all ham taste-nothing else. We've also wrapped it in foil & still added the water & cooked it in the crock pot. Still delicious. Either way is great. The only problem I've ever had is until I bought a 7 quart crock pot, the whole ham wouldn't ever fit-we had to cut it in two pieces
