Double-Onion Beef Sandwiches

Beef brisket provides a simple addition to this spicy slow-cooked sandwich.

Ingredients

large cloves garlic, finely chopped
1
tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2
teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper

lb fresh beef brisket (not corned beef)

medium onion, thinly sliced

package (1.3 oz) onion soup mix
1/2
cup water

individual French rolls or crusty rolls

Steps

  • 1 In small bowl, mix garlic, Worcestershire sauce and pepper. Rub on both sides of beef brisket. Cut beef in half or thirds to fit slow cooker. In 3 1/2- to 6-quart slow cooker, place sliced onion. Top with beef pieces. Sprinkle with soup mix. Add water.
  • 2 Cover; cook on Low heat setting 8 to 10 hours.
  • 3 Remove beef from slow cooker; place on cutting board. Cut beef across grain into thin slices. Skim fat from juices in slow cooker. Return beef to slow cooker; mix well.
  • 4 To serve cut rolls horizontally in half. Spoon beef mixture onto bottom halves of rolls. Drizzle with juices. Cover with top halves of rolls.

Expert Tips

Save yourself the time of chopping by picking up a jar of chopped garlic. When a recipe calls for a clove of garlic, you'll need 1/2 teaspoon chopped garlic.
