Dessert ready in an hour! Try traditional candies with chocolate coating in a new way - a yummy treat.

Ingredients

oz. vanilla-flavored candy coating or almond bark, cut into pieces

cup shortening

cup finely crushed peppermint candy*

Coating

Steps

  • 1 Line 9x5-inch loaf pan with foil. In medium saucepan over low heat, melt vanilla-flavored candy coating and 1/4 cup shortening, stirring constantly until smooth. Remove from heat; stir in peppermint candy.** Spread in foil-lined pan. Let stand until firm.
  • 2 Remove candy from pan by lifting foil. Cut into 1-inch squares. Let stand until very firm.
  • 3 In small saucepan over low heat, melt coating ingredients, stirring constantly until smooth. Set saucepan in hot water to maintain dipping consistency. Dip half of each peppermint candy square into coating; allow excess to drip off. Place coated side up on waxed paper. Garnish as desired. Let stand until set.

Expert Tips

*To crush peppermint candies, place in plastic bag; secure with twist tie. Using hammer, crush candies. **To prepare in microwave, combine vanilla-flavored candy coating and 1/4 cup shortening in medium microwave-safe bowl; microwave on MEDIUM for 3 to 5 minutes or until candy coating is melted. Stir until smooth. Stir in peppermint candy. Combine chocolate-flavored candy coating and 1 tablespoon shortening in separate microwave-safe bowl; microwave on MEDIUM for 2 to 3 minutes or until melted. Stir until smooth.
