These were simple & yummy. I sprinkled cinnamon sugar on the crescent rolls before folding. I agree that frosting them right out of the oven is not going to get you the cross detail shown in the photo. The frosting is too thin & it just melts in. Tastes great though! I'll try again but take the advice of Claudia and let the rolls cool first before frosting.

I love hot cross buns, I will make this lovely easy recipe on good Friday morning. Yes the rolls must be cool before you frost them with the cross. thanks for this delightful recipe and the comments.

I suggest that you let the rolls cool completely before you frost them.I think I will add some citron to the recipe as that is the way I remember them. It might be hard to find, but you can get it at Christmas time.It is sold with the fruit for fruitcake.

these were a great hit and wonderful just warm from the oven. I added some cinnamon as well. I had a litle trouble with the icing cross though. It melted away.

These buns with raisins were so tasty ! But I could not master the glazed X's.The glaze was sort of transparent and as dense as water. So, instead I just decorated them with white icing.
