Yummy. I was in a pinch so I mixed the can of Starters with a giant can of veg-all, topped it with the potatoes and frenchs fried onion. Delicious. I will be making this again and will follow the recipe exact next time. I'm sure it will be good because the all progreso starters have great flavor.

I use morning star ground beef and cream of mushroom soup to make mine. Very yummy!

Oops! We really goofed. Thanks for calling us on the "vegetarian" name when the recipe really isn't. You'll see a change in the recipe name soon and thanks again.

I agree with you ajbrumbaugh. And you know, I never understood this whole Vegetarian thing. Ok, so you don't want to sit down and eat a whole side of beef, ok. But a little bit of chicken broth in this recipe? I don't get it? What's the big deal?

What about using Campbells Cream of Mushroom soup in place of the Progresso Meal Starter?

Not a real Shepherd's Pie, if you want vegetarian, make something else, Shepherd's pie has meat, thanks God

I thought this recipe was great and as others have done, I'm chastising all of you people that apparently think you are so smart to remind us it isn't vegetarian. Did the good Lord not give you common sense? We can tell that and if that is a problem make adjustments. This is to REVIEW the recipe not criticize the name. Really? This many people had to let us know it wasn't vegetarian. I can figure that on my own. If you don't have any advice on the actual recipe please don't make me sift through your comments to find someone that has some actual review of the recipe to share.

Although I haven't tried this yet, it sounds good & I decided to respond with regard to the "Recipe Starter with Chicken Stock". Make your own sauce beginning with a roux: equal parts butter & flour, plus the liquid of your choice. 1st melt butter in a saucepan; when it bubbles, whisk in the flour, continuing until flour just begins to brown. Then whisk in the liquid. For this recipe I'd recommend 3 tablespoons butter, 3 tablespoons flour and two to three cups vegetable broth. Keep stirring until sauce thickens. At this point you can add shredded cheese, if you want it to be a cheesy sauce.

Some people have no tact in expressing their opinion. Maybe this could be called Meatless pot Pie. It has no meat & the chicken broth only comes from the meat source...but not a tangible piece of meat. I eat meat but admit this sounds very tasty. And, yes use vegetarian stock if that will help your total vegetarian lifestyle. It might be kinder to explain why it isn't true vegetarian instead of being rude. Remember the Golden Rule, people!
