Love these sugar cookies. You can definitely taste the almond extract but my friends, family and I loved them! Made them for Christmas 2012 and here I am again making them in the first week of January! Cook quick, taste great!

These are wonderful....just use half as much almond extract however.

Found this recipe in the Christmas 2008 book. It called for 5 teaspoons each of salt, almond extract and vanilla. Mixed up recipe as listed and baked. they turned out salty and decided to look up on the web site. I will probably bake again with the correct measurements. I thought it was a lot of each, but figured it would work. Sorry I did not look up before I made them.

These are the best tasting cookies. I have been making them for over 30 years. I always double the batch and freeze the dough.
Sadly no method that I have ever tried as allowed me to roll the dough and then use cookie cutters.
Freezing, chilling equipment, using a cookie press, or even the cookie shaped cookie pans are all failures.
But the taste more then makes up for the lack of ease in rolling the dough out.

How far in advance can these cookies be made and still stay fresh?
Thanks

Is the sugar in the recipe "granulated" or "powdered"?

I have used this recipe for many years, using the Jam Thumbprint version out of an old Pillsbury cookbook. You take the dough and make 1 inch balls, then roll them in finely chopped walnuts or pecans. Place on a cookie sheet and make a small depression in the center. Add a half tsp of your favorite jam and bake for about 12 minutes. These are soooo yummy as jam thumbprints, that I get raves over them every year.

i love this recipe, had it and lost it years ago so thankful to find it here! We omitted the Almond extract because that's just not a preferred flavor for us, we did add lemon to a batch because that is my oldest daughter's favorite. The dough cuts very well and that is a blessing with so many little cooks wanting to help Mommy make holiday cookies. To eliminate issues with rolling out the dough and having it stick to everything we rolled out between sheets of waxed paper which also helped in the clean up phase....HOORAY for easy clean-up!

Just made these the other day, they were delicious, I just love cream cheese in anything. I did have a hard time rolling out with the flour, it made for a tougher cookie, so I will try with the powdered sugar. These cookies are Mmmm mmmm good, "Hmm hmm" (in my pillsbury dough boy voice).
