Made these last night. Only had a 30 oz. package of chocolate chip dough, so used a 9x13 pan. Did not have any raspberry jelly, so used strawberry-red current jam. Had to bake it about 50 minutes, and it turned out great. Next time I would add walnuts to the topping since that is what I use in my fruitcake; and I missed them. It's a keeper. Thanks.

make sure that the candied fruit doesn't contain citron but does have pinapple. Added pecans and shredded coconut.

Add walnuts, candied pineapple and maraschino cherries to this, and raisins are good in this to.

I would not use Chocolate chips to a fruit cake at all. I would add walnuts, candied pineapple, candied red cherries, and raisins. This is all I use for a fruitcake or for bars or cookies, half the dough on top adds to the taste of this

Omit the candied fruit, substitute with raisins, currants, and walnuts.

This recipe would be better if 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts were added to the fruit. The nuts are the missing ingredient.

Combine the seedless rasberry jam with a mixture of cream cheese, vanilla, and powdered sugar for the filling - just enough to spread but not a thick layer. Change the candied fruit to maraschino cherries that have marinated overnight in rum (drained and chopped) and sprinkled on top of the filling and on top of the confection prior to baking vs. mixing them in. Add rum into the overall mix - just enough for flavoring - and top off the whole confection with a dusting of powdered sugar. Yummy...

I'm not a fan of candied fruits; change them to dried fruits (i.e. dried apricots, cranberries, apples, pineapple, currants), add walnuts and rum (or rum flavoring) and I think you'd have a winner.

Gotta tell you, this probably won't be weel "accepted". I could be wrong, but I only know 2 people that like fruitcake, take out the fruitcake stuff and add reg. cherries and dark choc. chips so to turn into a chocolate covered cherry bar.
