hot dog buns, split

cup chopped onion, if desired

  • 1 GRILL DIRECTIONS: Heat grill. When ready to grill, place hot dogs on gas grill over medium heat or on charcoal grill 4 to 6 inches from medium-high coals. Cook 5 to 6 minutes or until thoroughly heated, turning frequently.
  • 2 Meanwhile, heat beans in small saucepan over medium heat until hot.
  • 3 Place buns, cut side down, on grill; cook 30 to 60 seconds or until lightly toasted.
  • 4 Place hot dogs in buns. Top each with about 1/4 cup beans, onion and 2 cheese strips. If desired, place sandwiches on grill; cover grill and heat until cheese is melted.

Expert Tips

To broil hot dogs, place on broiler pan; broil 4 to 6 inches from heat using times above as a guide, turning frequently.

Pierce hot dogs and place them in a shallow microwave-safe dish. Add 2 tablespoons of water and cook on HIGH for 1 minute or until hot. Place beans in a microwave-safe bowl and cook on HIGH for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes or until hot, stirring after 1 minute.

Corn chips are a natural accompaniment to chili dogs. To complete the menu, add fresh fruit, chocolate chip cookies and lemonade.
