  • 1 Heat oven to 400°F. Place chicken strips on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 400°F. for 18 minutes or until chicken is thoroughly heated.
  • 2 Meanwhile, spread margarine on bread slices. Add bread to cookie sheet with chicken during last 10 minutes of cooking time.
  • 3 Spread dressing on each toasted bread slice. Top with chicken, half cheese slice, ham and another half cheese slice. Bake an additional 2 to 3 minutes or until cheese is melted.

Cordon bleu is French for blue ribbon. The term originally referred to a culinary excellence award for women chefs. Cordon bleu also describes a rich preparation in which a thin slice of prosciutto and a thin slice of Gruyère are layered between two thin pieces of chicken or veal. The chicken or veal packets are then breaded and sautéed until golden. While our recipe has all the flavor of classic chicken cordon bleu, it's easy to assemble.

Breaded chicken breast strips are similar to chicken nuggets. The long strips fit the oval shape of sliced French bread.
