I made this as directed. It was very tasty. The only change I'll make next time is to add less flour. It was extremely thick ... more like the consistency of a casserole than a cream soup.

Instead of using flour try what I always do. Use a small amount of instant potato mix and stir to thicken. Works for me and theres no flour taste :)

Easy and very good, did add extra cheese and bacon, was a big hit with my husband. Will be passing on this recipe and making again!

In order to reduce unnecessary calories/fat, I use an immersion blender to thicken my soups instead of the flour/rue method. It is has the same effect and no extra calories! NOTE: Use a blender or food processor for a cup or so of the chunky soup if you don't have the immersion style blender.

Great! However, next time I'll not pre-cook the onions as they were just mushy when it was time to eat. I'll put them in raw. And I don't think I'll use as much flower as it was a little thicker than I like. But it was oh so yummy!!!

I use extra sharp cheddar cheese and add about twice the amount it calls for. I dip half of the cheese in the flour lightly then add it to the soup. This way the cheese doesnt completely melt and you get little bits of cheese. Another thing is i make a rue with flour butter and onions then I pour in the chicken stock and remainging ingredients. I wait for the potatoes to be done and then I add the cheese.

to add more flavor I would add some of the bacon grease to the soup while the potatoes are boiling and also I used a very flavorful extra sharp cheddar cheese block. I dipped some of the shredded cheese into the flour and then added it to the soup this prevented all of the cheese to completely melt and would give you bites of cheese. I love this soup!

Good, I forgot the flour at first and ended up with it being lumpy (as I didn't mix it before I put it in the soup). I added more pepper also. Otherwise, it was good and freezes fairly well.

It was good, but I could taste the flour in it. It was much better the next day, when I added more chicken broth to it, then I couldn't taste the flour. Next time I make this I will leave the flour out.
