I have also spiced with salt, pepper, and garlic, browned with flour and oil. First made a gravy with drippings, then added canned tomatoes, onions, and water to simmer, covered. Over mashed potatoes, YUM,

Yes, indeed, flour, salt & pepper, brown the beef, ALWAYS, before doing the rest of this recipe. OR, maybe that's the only way I've ever done it, that's true enough! And in the 325 oven for 2 hourse, but I was making a dish for 6-8, so never mind that! I'll try it w/out browning and see how it comes out, after all, this is just for two (I think??) Will let ya know how it turns out! Meanwhile, ENJOY, from Tucson
