This quick and easy Italian appetizer is topped with a savory mixture of apple, cheese and pecans.

Ingredients

slices (1/2 inch thick) baguette French bread

tablespoon olive oil

tablespoon butter or margarine

medium Fuji apple, diced
1/2
cup crumbled Gorgonzola cheese (2 oz)
1/4
cup chopped pecans
1/4
cup honey
1
teaspoon chopped fresh thyme leaves
1/4
teaspoon freshly ground pepper
Fresh thyme sprigs, if desired

Steps

  • 1 Heat oven to 400°F. Place bread slices on ungreased cookie sheet. Brush each bread slice with oil. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown and crisp.
  • 2 Meanwhile, in 10-inch skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add apple; cook 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened; remove from heat. Stir in cheese, pecans, 2 tablespoons of the honey, 1 teaspoon thyme and the pepper. Spoon apple mixture evenly over bread slices. Drizzle with remaining 2 tablespoons honey.
  • 3 Bake 8 to 9 minutes or until cheese is melted. Garnish with thyme sprigs.
