Orange juice and strawberries come together in this sorbet – a wonderful frozen dessert for Halloween.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups blood orange juice
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange peel
  • 1 bag (16 oz) frozen unsweetened whole strawberries, thawed
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup vodka, if desired

Steps

    In 1-quart saucepan, mix 1/2 cup of the orange juice, the sugar and orange peel. Heat to boiling over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat; cool 5 minutes. Refrigerate 30 minutes or until chilled.

    In food processor, place strawberries and lime juice. Cover; process until smooth. Gradually add chilled sugar syrup, vodka and remaining 2 1/2 cups orange juice, Cover; process just until blended. Pour into ice-cream freezer; freeze according to manufacturer’s directions.

    If not using an ice-cream freezer, pour mixture into ungreased 13x9-inxch (3 quart) glass baking dish; cover with foil. Freeze 3 hours, stirring occasionally. Freeze an additional 5 hours, without stirring, or until firm. Remove from freezer 10 minutes before serving.
