Ingredients

  • 1 lb. boneless beef sirloin steak, trimmed of fat, cut into 3/4-inch cubes
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 (12-oz.) jar home-style beef gravy
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 3 teaspoons paprika
  • 2 1/2 oz. (2 cups) uncooked medium no-yolk egg noodles
  • 1 cup frozen sweet peas
  • 1/2 cup light sour cream

Steps

  • 1
Spray 12-inch nonstick skillet with nonstick cooking spray. Heat over medium-high heat until hot. Add beef and onion; sprinkle with garlic salt. Cook 4 to 6 minutes or until beef is browned, stirring frequently.
  • 2
Add gravy, broth and paprika; mix well. Stir in uncooked noodles and peas. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low; cover and cook about 10 minutes or until beef and noodles are tender, stirring occasionally. Stir in sour cream until well blended.

  • This recipe has the sour cream and paprika of Hungarian paprikash, which is prepared with braised chicken and onions. The recipe is also similar to goulash a Hungarian beef stew seasoned with paprika.
  • This paprikash can also be served over mashed potatoes; omit the egg noodles.
  • Cut up the beef and onion ahead of time, then cover and refrigerate them for up to 24 hours.
