lb. boneless beef sirloin steak, trimmed of fat, cut into 3/4-inch cubes

medium onion, sliced

(12-oz.) jar home-style beef gravy

cup beef broth

  • 1 Spray 12-inch nonstick skillet with nonstick cooking spray. Heat over medium-high heat until hot. Add beef and onion; sprinkle with garlic salt. Cook 4 to 6 minutes or until beef is browned, stirring frequently.
  • 2 Add gravy, broth and paprika; mix well. Stir in uncooked noodles and peas. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low; cover and cook about 10 minutes or until beef and noodles are tender, stirring occasionally. Stir in sour cream until well blended.

Expert Tips

This recipe has the sour cream and paprika of Hungarian paprikash, which is prepared with braised chicken and onions. The recipe is also similar to goulash a Hungarian beef stew seasoned with paprika.

This paprikash can also be served over mashed potatoes; omit the egg noodles.

Cut up the beef and onion ahead of time, then cover and refrigerate them for up to 24 hours.
