2
tablespoons microwave ready regular syrup
1/4
teaspoon liquid smoke, if desired
1
lb. ground pork
4
sesame seed burger buns, split
1
(8-oz.) can pineapple slices, drained

Steps

  • 1 GRILL DIRECTIONS: Heat grill. In small bowl, combine barbecue sauce, syrup and liquid smoke; mix well.
  • 2 In medium bowl, combine ground pork and 3 tablespoons of the barbecue sauce mixture; mix well. Shape mixture into 4 patties, 1/2 inch thick.
  • 3 When ready to grill, place patties on gas grill over medium heat or on charcoal grill 4 to 6 inches from medium coals; cover grill. Cook 10 to 12 minutes or until patties are no longer pink in center, turning once.

Expert Tips

To broil patties, place on broiler pan; broil 4 to 6 inches from heat using times above as a guide, turning once. Meanwhile, place pineapple slices and buns, cut side up, on broiler pan; broil 1 to 2 minutes or until buns are lightly toasted. Turn pineapple slices; broil an additional 1 to 2 minutes.

Liquid smoke gives foods a smoky flavor without adding fat or sodium. Look for it next to the barbecue sauce in the condiment section of the grocery store.

Keep a spray bottle filled with water near the grill to handle flare-ups.

Serve these barbecue burgers with corn on the cob, watermelon cubes and iced tea or lemonade.
