Ingredients

Spicy Ranch Sauce

1/2 cup ranch dressing
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon red pepper sauce

Hush Puppies

Oil for deep frying

cups cornmeal mix

cup buttermilk

egg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

cup shredded Cheddar cheese (4 oz)

slices bacon, crisply cooked, crumbled

Directions

  1. 1 In small bowl, mix all sauce ingredients. Refrigerate until serving time.
  2. 2 In deep fryer or heavy 3-quart saucepan, heat 2 inches oil to 360°F. In medium bowl, stir cornmeal mix, buttermilk, egg, salt and pepper. Stir in cheese and bacon.
  3. 3 Drop batter by tablespoonfuls into hot oil. Fry 2 to 3 minutes, turning several times, until golden brown. Drain on cooling rack over paper towels. Serve hush puppies hot with Spicy Ranch Sauce.
