In this recipe "cheese food" is the orange stuff in a jar labeled "Cheez Whiz." It's used in Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches, chili cheese dogs, a base for hot cheesy dips, etc. Solid processed cheese is "Velveeta."

I believe it is a soft processed cheese. Like cheez whiz or the kind you find in the deli that you spread on crackers. Here is what I found on the internet: In the United States some cheeses called Cheddar are actually flavoured processed cheeses or cheese food, and often bear little resemblance to the original cheese. Examples include Easy Cheese, a cheese food contained in a spray can, or in individually wrapped processed cheese slices.

Cheese food is an industry term...and I'm not quite sure what it means. But the cheese refernced in this receipe is simply Bar or Pub Cheese found in the cheese dairy case. It usually comes in flavors as well as Cheddar.

Yes, would someone please tell us what "cheese food" is? I am rather leery of trying this delicious sounding dip not knowing what one of the main ingredients is....YIKES!!!!!!!
