cup margarine or butter, softened

cup vanilla yogurt

cups thinly sliced, peeled apples

tablespoons sugar

  • 1 Heat oven to 350°F. Grease 9-inch springform pan. In large bowl, combine margarine and 1/4 cup sugar; beat until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and 1 egg; beat well. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt; mix well. Spread dough over bottom and 1 inch up sides of pan.
  • 2 In small bowl, combine yogurt and 1 egg; spread over dough. Arrange apple slices over filling; sprinkle with 3 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon.
  • 3 Bake at 350°F. for 35 to 45 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Cool 10 minutes; remove sides of pan. Serve warm or cool. Store in refrigerator.

Expert Tips

If you want the apples to retain their shape and remain flavorful during baking, choose Rome Beauty, Winesap, Granny Smith or Jonathan. If you prefer softer cooked apples, try McIntosh or Cortland.

A springform pan has two pieces: a base and a cylindrical side piece. The side piece has a spring mechanism - a type of latch - that holds the sides tightly around the base while the cake is cooking. After the cake has cooled, release the latch to open the sides for easy removal. The base of the pan can remain in place during serving.
