My mother these while I was growing up, with a top crust and we called them Apple Slices. She found the recipe in the Chicago news paper in the late 30's. Her's were never too sweet. Loved them!

Made this yesterday with my husband's home grown apples, and it is very good. It is not super sweet, which we like. I think the lemon juice gave it a nice flavor. Will definately make again.

My suggestion is coat the apples in lemon juice FIRST then shake in a bag with the rest of the ingredients. Works better because the juice doesn't just gob up and is more evenly coated.

To all those who tried this recipe and thought it was to sweet, your problem may be that you used eating apples when you should have used a tarter apple like green pie apples. The apples you mentioned are all on the sweet side and are really for eating.

I have made these for years but call them apple pie bars. Also I crush cornflakes and sprinkle on top for crunch. everyone loves them even my picky husband.

PEACH SLAB PIE ~~~ I just saw the recipe for the Peach Slab Pie. The pie my aunt made was kinda creamy, not like the peach slab pie on this site. If anyone has a creamy peach slab pie I would love to hear from you :)

QUESTION FOR ANYONE PLEASE Does anyone have a recipe like this for peaches. I had an aunt who made something like this with peaches, I loved it and she passed. I'd love it if anyone knows of a recipe like it. Thank you all.

I made this this morning and it was delicious, would not change a thing. Used Johnson apples that I had in the freezer and they were perfect. Crust and apples were done 5 minutes early. Will diffidently be making this again soon. Thank you!

I made this yesterday and I need to tell you -- it's EXCESSIVELY sweet. Too sweet. Really. It doesn't need the glaze on top and if I were to make again, I'd use only 3/4 cup of sugar with the apple mixture. Also I used Gala apples, and they were the perfect apple.
