Heat oven to 375°F. Grease 8-inch square (2-quart) baking dish. In large bowl, combine apples, brown sugar, lemon peel, nutmeg and lemon juice; mix well.
In medium bowl, combine bread crumbs and margarine; sprinkle 1/2 cup bread crumb mixture in greased baking dish. Spoon apple mixture over crumb mixture; top with remaining bread crumb mixture. Cover with foil.
Bake at 375°F. for 45 to 50 minutes or until apples are almost tender. Uncover; bake an additional 15 to 20 minutes or until top is crisp and golden brown. Serve warm with half-and-half.
