Treat your family to this classic apple dessert served with half-and-half - perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

cups (5 medium) sliced peeled apples
1/2
cup firmly packed brown sugar
1
teaspoon grated lemon peel
1/4
teaspoon nutmeg
1
tablespoon lemon juice
1
cup unseasoned dry bread crumbs
1/2
cup margarine or butter, melted
Half-and-half, if desired

Steps

  • 1 Heat oven to 375°F. Grease 8-inch square (2-quart) baking dish. In large bowl, combine apples, brown sugar, lemon peel, nutmeg and lemon juice; mix well.
  • 2 In medium bowl, combine bread crumbs and margarine; sprinkle 1/2 cup bread crumb mixture in greased baking dish. Spoon apple mixture over crumb mixture; top with remaining bread crumb mixture. Cover with foil.
  • 3 Bake at 375°F. for 45 to 50 minutes or until apples are almost tender. Uncover; bake an additional 15 to 20 minutes or until top is crisp and golden brown. Serve warm with half-and-half.
