Baking apples, such as Granny Smith or Cortlands, work well in cobblers. Eating apples, such as Red Delicious, may retain a more firm texture after baking.
Other nuts, such as toasted chopped pecans or walnuts, may be substituted for the almonds, if desired, or the almonds may be eliminated.
The sweet-tart flavor of this cobbler is well paired with cranberry juice and strong coffee or tea for a perky morning wake up call.
