Amish Apple Dumplings

This simple Amish recipe is a favorite especially when served with ice cream. The recipe can easily be altered in order to make an apple for each guest!

empty pie shell, uncooked

medium red, round apples
4
teaspoons cinnamon
4
Tablespoons sugar
1
egg, beaten with 2 Tablespoons of water

  • 1 Separate the pie shell into two sections. Roll each section into a circle that is large enough to cover an apple.
  • 2 Peel and core the apples. Place an apple in the middle of each circle of dough.
  • 3 Mix the cinnamon and sugar together. Fill the core area of each apple with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • 4 Carefully form the dough around each apple, covering the hole for the dough tucking in any extra dough.
  • 5 Brush the top of each apple with the egg and water mixture. Sprinkle with a little cinnamon sugar, if desired.
  • 6 Bake in a 350 degree oven for one hour. Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped topping.
