Try looking in the bulk foods section at the grocery: you can grind your own almond butter, just the amnt you need. No mess, no clean-up!

I haven't made this yet, but would like to know if there is something I can substitute for the coconut flakes as my husband if allergic to coconut.

To make almond butter, just add raw almonds to a food processor and process til creamy. I added NOTHING else. Pulse the nuts til coarsely chopped and then keep the processor on, scraping down the sides occasionally. It took about 15 minutes to get the consistency I wanted, but you can stop along the way at any time for a crunchier butter. Almond butter is ridiculously expensive. This isn't. I make my own peanut butter, so I figured this would be at least as easy as that, and it was even easier because the almonds don't have to be toasted.

It was lucious....I had everything I needed to make it at home when I saw the recipe except almond butter. I looked it up on Google and found out how to make my own, which is kind of cool and very easy. The pie was great. I didn't do the coconut on top, but just increased the almonds. Rich, smooth and creamy....this one's a keeper!

I haven't made this yet, but it sure looks good! Almond butter can be bought at the grocery store, it's next to the peanut butter.

Yes, where do you get almond butter? Is it store bought? What is the brand. Does it come in a jar or a can? Can you make it?
