Ingredients

Doughnuts

Glaze

  • 3/4 cup chocolate creamy ready-to-spread frosting (from 16-oz container)
  • 1 tablespoon multicolored candy sprinkles

Steps

  • 1
In 2-quart heavy saucepan or deep fryer, heat oil to 375°F.
  • 2
Separate dough into 8 biscuits. With 1-inch round cookie cutter, cut hole in center of each biscuit.
  • 3
Fry biscuits, a few at time, so not to overcrowd pan, in hot oil 1 to 1 1/2 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Repeat frying with holes.
  • 4
In small microwavable bowl, place frosting. Microwave uncovered on High 20 to 30 seconds or until warmed and thinner consistency.
  • 5
Dip each doughnut halfway into warmed frosting; gently shake off excess. Using fork, drizzle holes with remaining frosting. Sprinkle with candy sprinkles. Serve warm.

  • Using a candy thermometer/deep-frying thermometer helps to ensure correct temperature when frying to ensure your chocolate sprinkle doughnut will have the best results.
  • Frying biscuits in batches will keep from overcrowding the pan and causing a drop in oil temperature.
  • Watch closely when warming frosting in a microwave. It does not need a lot of time before it starts to melt down into a looser texture that's perfect for dipping your sprinkle doughnut into.
  • Doughnut holes made from these chocolate sprinkle doughnuts can also be coated with powdered sugar or cinnamon-sugar when they come out of the oil. Just give them a shake in a paper or plastic bag filled with powdered sugar or cinnamon-sugar mixture.
