'long hours'

long hours

Need quick easy meals that can either stay in crock pot  8-9 hours or a healthy meal that can go from start to table in 30 minutes or less.  I don't get home till sometimes 6:30 during the school year and my family is starving  by then.  Help

Yipee it works !


Try Sat planning the weeks menus. Planning with your family is even better.


Use a crockpot with cheap cuts of meat and make two meals...one night with veggies next night use flour tortilla for wraps.


Try Pillsbury pizza dough and top with veggies and meat,,they have reg and thin crust.


Make breakfast for dinner,,use leftovers with scrambled eggs, easy and quick .

I admit when I read your post I just saw "starving" and "family" and my heart sank.  I know this site is filled with quick meals so I wanted to focus on what they could get started with that would not ruin their appetite too much since it requires crunching lots of chewing and effort on their parts and is healthy anyways in case you really run late and they overdo it.  All these ideas are something that could be prepared in the morning to chill for later I included 5 cause there's 5 days in most people's work week.

  • Chopped apples rolled lightly in lemon juice & placed in a ziploc....jar of peanut butter & spoon on counter.

  • Carrot sticks in a ziploc & ranch dressing right next to it.

  • Orange bell peppers (they are so mild almost flavorless) deveined and broken into bite sized pieces by you then salted & placed in a ziploc, and sour cream based dip made and stored in the container it comes in with the prepared bell peppers in the bag on top of it in the fridge. Crunchy & salty, almost as satisfying as chips and dip.

  • Celery Sticks (peel the stringy parts kids find it easier to eat just grab them between a knife and you fingers or your counter and they pull right out).  On top of a tub of cream cheese for spreading on top (with a spoon) and raisins or "craisins" on the counter for topping. aka "ants on a log".

  • "antipasto" plate string cheese &/or small fun peelable babybel cheeses &/or pitted black olives, & /or pepperoni slices all on plate &/or artichoke hearts in tiny jar on counter depending on their tastes, your budget, & their skill with opening things.

Leave snacks in the fridge for tiding them over till you get home to give you time to cook. Designate a reachable fridge rack for it that everyone knows that's the goto spot when they get the munchies waiting for you.  It's like their appetizers.

Sorry, I had to split my post up into 3 separate posts like this because it would not accept it as one long one.  I'm not sure how other people post those superlong full on recipe's I see sometimes, but I had to do it this way.

FYI


It did help after I call the contact number for Pillsbury however the site will "time out" and will allow only a few lines of writing . If you write too much it will not "take". I discovered all that after many attempts. Good luck !
