paper insert in Pillsbury flour crazy crust mexican or hamburger pie

Searching for an old recipe that was on a small paper inserted inside flour years ago. THe crust was made from sour cream and Pillsbury flour but I can't remember exactly. There were 3-4 variations of filling and one was hamburger with cheddar cheese and catsup or tomato sauce. Does anyone have this recipe. Please and thank you. mimi

Hi mimi27022:

Thank you for joining!

Just confirmed with Linda this recipe. Here is what she had to say:

We have crazy crust pizza and crazy crust apple pie but there may have been more.

CRAZY CRUST PIZZA

Prep Time:  30 minutes
(Ready in  50 minutes)

 Flour or cornmeal
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2/3 cup milk
2 eggs
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 (4-oz.) can mushroom pieces and stems, drained
1 (8-oz.) can pizza sauce
4 oz. (1 cup) shredded mozzarella cheese

1.  Heat oven to 425°F.  Grease 12-inch pizza pan; sprinkle with flour.  Brown ground beef in large skillet until thoroughly cooked, stirring frequently.  Drain.

2.  Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off.  In small bowl, combine 1 cup flour, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, milk and eggs; blend until smooth.  Pour batter into greased and floured pan, tilting pan so batter covers bottom.  Spoon beef over batter.  Top with onion and mushrooms.

3.  Place pan on lowest oven rack; bake at 425°F. for 20 to 25 minutes or until deep golden brown.

4.  Remove from oven.  Spoon pizza sauce over pizza; sprinkle with cheese.  Return to oven; bake an additional 7 to 12.

Yield:  6 servings

HIGH ALTITUDE (ABOVE 3500 FEET):  No change.

The above Crazy Crust Pizza is not it.  The recipe you're looking for was also on the back of the Pillsbury four bag for quite some time during the mid seventies.  I've looked for it for years...but have yet to find it...it was the best pizza I have ever had.  The one I recall had the sour cream and ground beef and cheddar cheese but that's all I remember.  If I find it I'll be sure to post it up here...please do the same!  Thanks.

Re: paper insert in Pillsbury flour crazy crust mexican or hamburger pie

INGREDIENTS:

2 1/2

to 3 cups all-purpose* or bread flour

1

tablespoon sugar

1

teaspoon salt

1

package regular or quick active dry yeast

(2 1/4 teaspoons)

3

tablespoons olive or vegetable oil

1

cup very warm water (120° to 130°)

Hide Directions

DIRECTIONS:

  • Mix 1 cup of the flour, the sugar, salt and yeast in large bowl. Add 3 tablespoons oil and the warm water. Beat with electric mixer on medium speed 3 minutes, scraping bowl frequently. Stir in enough remaining flour until dough is soft and leaves sides of bowl. Place dough on lightly floured surface. Knead 5 to 8 minutes or until dough is smooth and springy. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let rest 30 minutes. Continue as directed below for thin crusts or thick crusts.

For Thin Crusts: Heat oven to 425°. Grease 2 cookie sheets or 12-inch pizza pans with oil. Divide dough in half. Pat each half into 12-inch circle on cookie sheets. Partially bake 7 to 8 minutes or until crust just begins to brown. Add toppings and bake as directed in step 1.

For Thick Crusts: Grease 2 square pans, 8x8x2 inches, or 2 round pans, 9x1 1/2 inches, with oil. Sprinkle with cornmeal. Divide dough in half. Pat each half in bottom of pan. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let rise in warm place 30 to 45 minutes or until almost double. Move oven rack to lowest position. Heat oven to 375°. Partially bake 20 to 22 minutes or until crust just begins to brown. Add toppings and bake as directed in step 1.

*Do not use self-rising flour.
