frosting a cake

Hi Bakers:

When I am frosting a cake, I have crumbs from my cake in the frosting.  How can I frost a cake without getting these crumbs?  Thanks.

Re: frosting a cake

I find when I put the cooled cake in the freezer, covered with wax paper for at least an hour, it will prevent crumbing.Big Smile

Re: frosting a cake

to continue about freezing the cake.. ( just first time responding..submitted to early.) I learned when I was a cake decorator that you can freeze them up to a week without any taste change. Just make sure if you are doing more than the hour, you wrap in wax paper and then place in a freezer ziploc bag. I like to bake and freeze my cakes during the weekend. That way when there is a birthday or other occasion during the week, all that is left is to make the buttercream frosting! Time saver. I hope this helps.
