Top 5 PIES for the Autumn of 2009

About a month ago, I posted a thread titled, “Fall is almost here, let’s make a PIE!” Well, now fall is in full swing and I’ve been seeing all sorts of impressive pie recipes. So, here’s some of my favorites from the past week, beginning and ending with an apple pie.

Classic Apple Pie, as this San Diego blogger calls it, features a combination of Granny Smith and Jonagold apples, along with some lemon juice, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Originally adapted from a Pillsbury recipe, she comments on how the Pillsbury crusts were “incredibly easy to work with”. Is this the perfect apple pie?

Not all pies are created equal and, therefore, not all pies must use pie crust. This Chicken Pot Pie recipe uses Pillsbury crescent rolls, which the blogger managed to get for free at the supermarket. Her vegetables of choice were celery, green peas, and green onions, along with chicken and cream cheese—a delicious way to ring in the fall season.

Looking to get a little adventurous with your dessert? This one is a multistage recipe and might require some more time than the others, yet it will be worth it. The Stuffed Crust Coco-Banana Cream Pie is filled with macadamia nuts, butter, and sugar in the crust and a delicious-sounding banana cream in the middle. Is it a pie or is it a work of art?

This beach blogger stumbled across some great pumpkins stands along the East Coast, which prompted her to share some of her favorite pumpkin recipes. One of them is an Easy Sugarless Pumpkin Pie recipe she received in 1998. It uses Pillsbury Refrigerated Pie Crusts with 16 ounces of pumpkin puree, as well as some interesting fall seasonings.

Finally, we have a recipe for The Best Apple Pie Ever. The blogger states that, “Every single person I’ve shared this pie recipe with has fallen in love with it.” Incorporating sour cream and vanilla into the filling and an array of walnuts and cinnamon for the topping, the pie rests in our Refrigerated Pie Crust and could be your big hit for this year’s family get-together.

Those are our favorites for this week’s fall recipes and there are certainly some interesting ones! Let us know if you try that Banana Cream Pie as it sounds amazing. In the coming weeks, you can definitely expect to see more Halloween and Thanksgiving themed threads here in the Community. Do you have any suggestions for us?
