Ideas for "cosmic" themed Vacation Bible School snacks.

Our church is having a week long vacation Bible school and snacks are provided each day. The theme this year is concerning the planets and stars and the cosmos. Any ideas??

Hi dede0: Welcome to the boards. What a great theme! Hmmm. Here are some ideas:

1. We have plenty cute star themes:

2. Thought this was a cute Sun treat! http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/mr-sun-cupcakes/d73359f1-9e21-4523-813f-4d0869f19f65

3. I bet you could play off the Milky Way with some pinwheels: http://www.pillsbury.com/search/searchresults.aspx?terms=pin+wheels&tab=All&SL=1

4. If you have little star cookie cutters, these Fruit and Cheese Kabobs could be a yummy option! http://www.pillsbury.com/Recipes/ShowRecipe.aspx?rid=13974

Hope this helps or inspires! Sincerely, Cate

4. I asked Linda from Customer Service for this recipe:

Bonbon Cookies (Galaxie Cookies)

1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
Food color, if desired
1 1/2 cups Gold Medal® flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
Fillings: pitted dates, nuts, semisweet chocolate pieces and candied or maraschino cherries
Or:
About 24 chocolate stars or pecan halves
Icing (below)

Heat oven to 350°.  Mix thoroughly butter, sugar, vanilla and few drops food color.  Work in flour and salt until dough holds together.  (If dough is dry, mix in 1 to 2 tablespoons milk.)  Mold dough by tablespoonfuls around cherry, date, nut, chocolate pieces or chocolate star.  Place cookies about 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet.  Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until set but not brown.  Cool; dip tops of cookies into Icing.  If desired, decorate each with coconut, nuts, colored sugar, chocolate pieces or chocolate shot.  Makes 20 to 25.

*Do not use self-rising flour in this recipe.

Icing:
Mix 1 cup powdered sugar, 2 1/2 tablespoons cream and 1 teaspoon vanilla until smooth.  If desired, stir in few drops food color.  For a chocolate icing, increase cream to 3 tablespoons and stir in 1 ounce melted unsweetened chocolate (cool).

Penuche Bonbon Cookies:
Substitute 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed) for the powdered sugar and omit food color.

Chocolate Bonbon Cookies:
Follow recipe for Bonbon Cookies (above) except-stir in 1 square (1 ounce) unsweetened chocolate, melted.

High Altitude Directions (3500 to 6500 feet):
 No adjustments are necessary.
