Enjoy fresh baked bread without even turning on your oven...fire up the grill instead!

Nothing gets your neighbors talking and heading toward your house quicker than the smell of something cooking on the grill. Imagine how quickly they would jump that fence if they caught the scent of fresh baked bread in the air!

Heating up your oven in the middle of summer to bake bread is never tempting for me, but freshly baked bread is always a delicious accompaniment to any meal. So how about firing up the grill instead? You can have freshly baked bread in the middle of summer with the help of your grill and Pillsbury® bread dough.

First, start with a can of Pillsbury® Country Italian Bread. (Crusty French Bread works great, too!)

Coat a cookie sheet (one that you don’t mind getting a bit brown) with cooking spray. Place the bread dough on the pan, and cut a slit down the middle of the dough.

It may vary for different grills, but here is what worked best on my grill. I heated the gas grill until it was 350 degrees. I put the bread to one side, away from the direct heat.

I then baked the bread for about 15 minutes. Don’t give in to the temptation of peeking while it is baking! You want to make sure the temperature stays consistent in the grill.

After about 15 minutes, I opened the grill and moved the bread to the top rack for about 5 minutes. This will allow it to brown and get crispy.

Brush the bread with butter and serve with your favorite main dish. The bread baked beautifully and was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside…just the way bread should be! You could also split the loaf down the middle and brush with garlic butter or your favorite flavored butter. The options are endless, and your oven can take a summer break!
