Couples showers: The latest trend in wedding parties

There’s a reason couples showers are quickly becoming one of the most popular pre-wedding parties – they’re super fun and relaxed! Celebrate with the bride- and groom-to-be and their friends with help from a few easy recipes and tips.

What food should you serve?

Variety is key. Keep it casual – it's all about good food and good friends. Make sure you don't skimp on food amounts. But you can keep costs low if you ask a few friends to bring dishes to share.

Try these recipes for your couples shower:

Four tips to pull off an awesome couples shower:

  1. Give it a “home” theme. Make the theme things for the home, and make sure guests get the message. Gifts can be anything – tools, smoke alarms, cleaning products, picture hanging kits, painting supplies.

  2. Add fun favors. Send everyone home with inexpensive small tools (screwdrivers, rulers, pocket tape measures or key chain flashlights).

  3. Give a useful gift. Consider giving the couple a coupon for “handy time” to rescue them when they're in need of help. Find a local handyman, and get a gift certificate. It may be their most useful gift.

  4. Play a simple game. If you want to play a game, make it a simple, big group game. Try this idea: One person draws some items needed to set up a household on a big piece of paper, and everyone guesses what they're supposed to be.
