As a novice baker, the thought of making a pie can be a wee bit intimidating. Getting the perfect crust and the tastiest filling puts too much pressure on this rookie pie maker. So when I was given a Mini Pie Maker to try, I couldn’t wait to give it a whirl. It said it was easy and no fuss...those are some of my favorite words!
I picked up some Pillsbury® Refrigerated Pie Crust, which takes all the fear out of preparing pie crusts. It makes baking as easy as, well, pie!
Following the pie maker instructions, I decided to make mini apple pies. Lightly coat the pie maker with cooking spray and mix chopped apples with cinnamon. You could also use canned pie filling, too. How easy!
Roll out one of the pie crusts and cut out circles using a small glass.
Press one circle into each space in the pie maker, making sure to push the middle down. Cut off the excess dough.
Spoon in the filling until almost to the top of each cup. (I suggest a little less so the filling doesn’t ooze out during cooking.)
Place another circle on top of each cup and close the lid. The machine will crimp the sides for you. Then let them bake! I will warn you that there is a lot of steam that comes out but that is normal. When the green light comes on, in about 8 minutes, open the lid and check out your cute and delicious-looking pies!
Let them cool and then pop them out. They are flaky and tasty. In fact, one member of my family said the treats were the best apple pies ever!
I also followed the recipe in the instruction booklet for mini quiches. They were equally as easy and equally as delicious!
This pie maker would make a great gift for the rookie baker in your family and would also be great for baking with kids. Best of all, Pillsbury® Pie Crust takes the scary out of baking!
