I first discovered hazelnut cocoa spread on a trip to Europe. It is a rich spread often served with warm crusty bread. Lately, I've seen it pop up in all types of recipes, so I thought about using it in a cereal bar.
Combined with Dulce de Leche Cheerios® and marshmallows, the spread creates a sweet cereal bar that complements your morning cup of coffee. The bars are for kids, too. In fact, my niece and nephew loved them and were sad that I had only brought a few bars over to their house!
This foolproof recipe starts with melting butter in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until melted.
Stir in the hazelnut spread. Mix until the spread is incorporated into the marshmallows. Pour in the cereal and combine until well coated.
Pour into a pan lined with parchment paper or coated with cooking spray. (The paper makes it easy to lift out and cut.)
Using a piece of parchment paper, firmly press the cereal in the pan to create a uniform height. Let cool for 30 minutes. (This is the hardest step!)
Cut into squares and serve. Store in an airtight container.
