Looking for lowfat, low calorie recipes

I am on Weight Watchers and would like some low fat, low calorie recipes for desserts, appetizers or meals.  Thanks.

Re: Looking for lowfat, low calorie recipes

OK I have a very strange recipe for a cake that is very good and low points for WW.  I have tried this and it does work. and tastes good.

1 package cake mix, any flavor of your choice.
1 can diet soda, flavor to go with cake.
(This is not a mistake no eggs, no oil, no butter. JUST the cake mix and the soda.)

Pre heat oven as directed on cake mix box.
Prepare cake pan of choice.  I used a bundt pan that way I could drizzle a little glaze and not have a lot of frosting, keeps more calories out.

In a large mixing bowl pour cake mix.
Pour entire can of diet soda and mix well.  Pour into prepared cake pan or pans.  Bake as directed.

I used a chocolate cake mix and a diet Dr Pepper.  My friend used a white cake and a raspberry soda. Both turned out great.
The friend that gave me this "recipe" got it and started using it because her daughter was diagnosed with diabetes and she can now have cake.  I was told that the entire cake works out to be something like 8 points for WW.
I hope you like it.

Re: Looking for lowfat, low calorie recipes

Apple pie:

1 package pillsbury redi pie crusts

7 apples ( i like Granny smith's) peel and slice them

   1/3 cup splenda

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg  1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Allow pie crusts to come to room temp(easier to handle),place one crust in the bottom of a pie plate, place one layer of apples into pie plate.

Mix together the spices and Splenda and sprinkle 1/2 of the mixture on top of the layer of apples....add another layer of apples and then the rest of the spice mix.

Moisten the edge of the bottom crust with a few drops of water.

Place the top crust and pinch the 2 crusts together (you can get fancy and make fluted crusts) form a flute between  your fingers.

Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes, allow to cool for 20 minutes

and enjoy!

Re: Looking for lowfat, low calorie recipes

I tried this one out yesterday and absolutely LOVED it!  I had gastric bypas surgery, so I'm very limited in my sugar and fat intake

2 cans (20 oz each) of sugar-free pie filling  (Most stores carry sugar-free apple & cherry)

1 box Pillsbury LOW SUGAR cake mix; white or yellow  (Wal-Mart sells it for $1.00 a box!)

1 cup QUICK COOKING oats

1 stick (1/2 cup) margarine or butter

Toss the dry cake mix and oatmeal together in a bowl.  Put the pie filling into a 9 x 13 pan, then place the cake mix/oatmeal mixture over the top.  DO NOT PACK IT DOWN.  Drizzle melted margarine or butter over the top and bake in a 350 degree oven for 30-35 minutes.

Re: Looking for lowfat, low calorie recipes

Have just signed up and though I said I need to lose weight, I still love to cook and bake like a Southerner--comfort food. This cake looks like comfort food without all the calories. Thanks for the recipe.

Re: Looking for lowfat, low calorie recipes

I have made this "Dump" cake for years and it is very good.  I have always used 1 can of pie filling and 1 can of crushed pineapple in the juice.  Cuts down even more on the sugar.  I like the combo of the pineapple with the cake.
I have not tried the sugar free cake mix I have always used just a regular cake mix.  I may give the sugar free a try.  Always looking for another way to cut back.

I love dump cakes also.  They are so easy.  I have used the reduced fat cake mix & low fat cherry pie filling and the pineapple.  It was great.

Re: Looking for lowfat, low calorie recipes

Be sure to check your point value.  I am on WW also & love this cake.  Just calculate your dry ing. & that is the point value per slice.  Most are 12 servings & 3 - 4 points per slice.  I add FF cool whip on top.

the reduced sugar cake mix is awesome!  it is actually better than a regular cake mix with full sugar!!!  i prefer the vanilla (but the chocolate is quite good too) and my family all love it as well!  reduced sugar and calories, everyone should try this!  sally

Re: Looking for lowfat, low calorie recipes

I have used Splenda for baking and Splenda brown sugar in many of my recipes that call for regular sugar and they have come out perfectly.  If you don't tell people that they are sugar free they will never be able to notice the difference.Stick out tongue

Re: Looking for lowfat, low calorie recipes

As a diabetic myself, this sounds great.   I'm always looking for something, like a dessert, that I can eat without worrying about how much sugar is in it.   I also love Diet Dr. Pepper, I will be trying this one.
