Looking for Old Crescent Roll Apple Pie Recipe

Years ago I used to make an incredible apple pie made with Pillsbury's crescent rolls.  I think that the recipe might have been on the container.  What I remember is that half of the rolls are to be pressed together and placed on the bottom of an 8 or 9" square pan, add the apple pie filling, then place the other half of the rolls (pressed together & stretched) over the filling.  What I don't remember is whether or not the bottom crust had to be browned first.  Obviously there are wonderful apple filling recipes out there, but this one was superb.  My family loved it so much that I made it at least once a week.  Does anyone have this recipe?  Thanks much!

Re: Looking for Old Crescent Roll Apple Pie Recipe

I found this recipe in the 24th Bakeoff booklet from 1973.  If this isn't the one you recall, let me know and I'll keep looking!

Easy Crescent Apple Cobbler

4 C (4 medium) peeled, sliced cooking apples

1/2 C sugar

3 T flour

1 t cinnamon

8 oz can Pillsbury Refrigerated Quick Crescent Dinner Rolls

Topping:

1/2 C brown Sugar

1 t cinnamon

2 T butter or margarine, melted

Preheat oven to 375.  In large bowl, combine first 4 ingredients.  Separate the crescent dough into 4 rectangles.  Press 2 rectangles over bottom or ungreased 8 or 9-inch square pan.  Spread apple mixture over dough.  Place remaining 2 rectangles over apples; stretch gently to cover.  Combine brown sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over dough.  Drizzle with butter.  Bake at 375 for 30-40  minutes until deep golden brown and center is no longer doughy.  Cool slightly.  Serve with heavy cream or ice cream.

Thanks SO much for taking the time to find the recipe for me...YES, that's the one!  When you mentioned where you found the recipe, that jiggled my memory also because I was forever buying bakeoff recipe booklets throughout the 70s when I first married.  Incidentally, I am assuming your last name is Smith...so is mine...so this Mrs. Smith thanks you for the apple pie recipe.  :-)

Re: Looking for Old Pumpkin Butter Recipe~

Hello mrs. Smith, although I do not have the recipe you seek I saw that you are quite knowledgeable about baking topics and decided to ask if you have any punkin'butter recipes? I tried some home style pumpkin butter from an old Virginian friend years ago and haven't tasted anything quite as delicious..So, please write to me if you know of any recipe for pumpkin butter. Thanks and Happy Holidays-

Re: Looking for Old Pumpkin Butter Recipe~

Hi,
I posted a recipe for a pumpkin butter a little while ago.  It is very good.
Pumpkin butter
1 Can 15 ounce size.  (Not pumpkin pie mix it has to be 100% pumpkin)
1 apple grated
1/2 Cup brown sugar
1 Cup apple juice or cider
1 teaspoon cinnamon (Or use pumpkin pie spice)
Place all ingredients in a heavy sauce pan and over medium heat cook until mixture is thick.  Stir constantly as mixture can stick or burn.
Remove from heat and let it cool a bit.  Refrigerate stored in covered glass or plastic container.

I did not keep this more than a week, mainly because I used it on pumpkin bread, toast, and almost anything else I could find.

I did not have apple juice when I made this so I grated 2 apples and used about 1/4 cup of water and it was just fine.
I hope this is what you are looking for.  I won't buy anymore pumpkin butter cuz this is so gosh darn easy and good!

Pumpkin butter
1 can, 15 ounce size 100% pumpkin
1 apple grated
1 Cup apple juice .. (I think cider would taste good.)
1/2 Cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon, or use pumpkin pie spice
Place all ingredients in a heavy sauce pan and cook over medium heat until the mixture has cooked down and becomes thick.  Stir constantly.
Remove from heat and let it cool a bit.  Store in refrigerator in covered glass or plastic container.
I did not keep this more than a week, mainly because I used it on pumpkin bread, toast, in my oatmeal.  I don't think I will ever buy pumpkin butter again, mainly cuz this is so gosh darn easy to make and good.
I did not have apple juice so I used 2 apples that I grated.
I hope this is what you are looking for.

Re: Looking for Old Crescent Roll Apple Pie Recipe

On Good Morning America this morning they had a pie contest among the anchors.  Diane Sawyer made an apple pie that had crescent rolls in it.  It also had M**nta*n D*w soda in it.  Could that have been it.  It's on the abc website.

Re: Looking for Old Crescent Roll Apple Pie Recipe

Thank you for having this recipe here.  This morning on abcgma, Diane Sawyer served a recipe that seems to be like yours.  I could not find out her recipe on the computer, but she did say she used crescent rolls and apples.  I assume this is it!  Thanks.
