Re: Getting Creative with Pizza!

I love making these at home!

I buy the thick wheat pitas and the squeeze bottle of Pizza sauce (because it’s just the hubby and I and we can’t seem to get through a whole can… when I feed more than us though with this meal- I do buy a can of pizza sauce!). I spread the sauce over the top of the pita.

I wash and dice a handful of spinach.* And I dice a red tomato. Add diced food on top of pita. Sprinkle with feta cheese.

Preheat oven to 375 Degrees. I cook for 7-10 minutes but watch them. It depends how you want your cheese melted and how crispy you want your crust.

*In the summer when I have fresh basil, I’ll may substitute with the spinach- or add some basil with the spinach.

Now, everybody loves their pizza a little differently- so if you are feeding a crowd serve the toppings in little bowls. Add a mozzarella, pepperoni, and olives in little bowls also. Let your guests decorate their little pizza and bake them all together on a cookie sheet. I've also grilled my pizzas before and it turned out well! Smile Always a hit when I entertain!

I have some Pillsbury Pizza Crust in the fridge. Maybe I'll try my favorite alittle differently this weekend. Looking forward to hearing about your pizza creations! Sincerely, CC

Re: Getting Creative with Pizza!

Update: Tried my favorite Greek toppings over the Pillsbury Pizza Crust on Saturday night! So yummy! It was so easy and the pizza was ready in 15 minutes (A basic pop and roll out and decorate before baking)! The hubby loved it as well. I bet I could mix it up alittle next time. Maybe put some sesame seeds on the crust... or even add a little garlic butter. Hmmm...

Sincerely, CC

Re: Getting Creative with Pizza!

we love homemade pizza, my favorite is using the pizza dough, spreading pizza sauce on top with lots of cheese and adding our favorite toppings. i know it sounds really weird, but dont knock it until you have tried it but our favorite toppings on our pizza are, ground chuck (which i fry in advance), and ekrich smoked sausage and red onion. its so delicious. my mom made this for us growing up and i have continued to make it for my family.

Re: Getting Creative with Pizza!

i just thought of another idea to share. i fix this for my kids in a jiffy all the time and they love it. i call them pizza burgers and i fry ground chuck and drain it and add a jar or two of pizza sauce. i lay out hamburger buns on a cookie sheet and top those buns with the meat mixture. i use kraft velveeta cheese slices and top the mixture with a slice of the cheese. leave them open faced. i stick them in the oven on 350 for about 15 or 20 minutes just until the bread starts to get a litte crispy and then we enjoy. my daughter is now 12 and this is her favorite lunch to make for her and her friends.

Re: Getting Creative with Pizza!

I bring this pizza to neighborhood potlucks -- it's always a hit. In fact, my neighbors are disappointed if I don't bring it!

Unroll a Pillsbury thin pizza crust on a cookie sheet sprayed with cooking spray. Spread crust with pesto, then cover with very thinly sliced provolone.  Next, add a layer of thinly sliced plum tomatoes, topped with shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. On top, sprinkle crumbled feta cheese and chopped fresh basil. Bake according to package directions. It is soooo good, and ready in about 30 minutes, start to finish.

Re: Getting Creative with Pizza!

Last night I used the Pillsbury pizza crust and cut it in half. I put pizza sauce on as the base and then added soy bacon, chopped tomatoes and cheddar cheese. I then folded them over so they were a mini-calzone. Yum!

Re: Getting Creative with Pizza!

Hi Cate,

I have made this recipe for years especially when I don't want to mess with real pizza.

4 tubes of regular old fashioned pillsbury buscuits

1 large jar favorite spaghetti or pizza sauce (at least 20 oz. total

favorite pizza toppings (chopped onion, olives chop and drain, ham, lots of pepporoni, sausage browned and drained, some bacon browned and drained, what ever else you like on pizza)

4 cups of your favorite cheeses.  2 for mixing in, 2 for baking on top.

parmesan as much as you like to mix in and sprinkle on top

Instructions:

open tubes of biscuits and cut each unbaked biscuit in to four pieces.  Using very large mixing bowl, stir biscuit pieces and any thing else that you would like to have on your pizza. It is just not in pie form on top but all mixed in remember.

place in 2 9x13 cake pans or a larger sized pan with higher sides.  top with remaining grated cheese and  parmesan as much or as little as you like.  bake at 400 degrees for 18 to 20 minutes.

I have made this recipe my own over the years so I know not much is like the original.  the best thing I can tell you that I learned from the original is to spread it out a little because it takes a while for the middle to get done. Also do not put cheese on top right away if you do not like a crispier top.
